It is ridiculous Barnett can't play in these games

I'm one that usually supports most NCAA rules because I know they're there to avoid cheating. But the one I've never understood is why a basketball player cannot play in preseason exhibition games and then red shirt. Or something like this Italian tour which are just exhibition games - why someone like Barnett cannot play in them without violating rules . It makes zero sense. The games don't even count. Who cares if he's technically ineligible in real games? These aren't real games. There would be zero advantage for any coach to have a player playing these games who wasn't going to be part of your program eventually
