such things are easily tossed about by people who know absolutely nothing about it.
What is more likely, and yes, I'm speculating here too, is that due to the accident, multiple surgeries and rehab time, he fell behind the NCAA's minimum progress requirements. It requires completion of at least 80% of your graduation requirements by the time you're a senior in order to remain eligible (different rates at different stages. That suggests why he had to take summer courses when most seniors are cruising at this point. The inability to complete one or more (all?) of the summer courses probably meant he didn't achieve the 80% threshold. And since he's a Rs senior and has no more eligiblity left (upcoming would be his 5th and last year of eligibility), he has no ability to make up that progress shortage, and therefore cannot remain on the team.
