Replacing a golden boy legacy true son senior QB with a 2-star freshman no one had ever heard of? I had my own doubts. I would love to have been able to somehow plug in to Pinkel's emotional state that day -- he "knew" intellectually that he had something special in Brad Smith but he did REALLY know how he'd do in live fire. Was he a product of green jersey practice? A function of playing just against MU's untested defense? Would he shrink under the lights or rise? The anxiety must have been nearly unbearable. But then he started to run and, oh my. I recall clearly thinking "We have not seen this before".
