Your assumption that there is one and only one possible explanation for his decision to leave at this point is beyond illogical.
SLU offers plenty for a guy like Tate. And yes, among those is more job security (Mizzou doesn't typically do multiyear contracts for assistants regardless of the head coach's security, though). No one's denied that.
It would be a damning indictment if he left for a random mid-major on the other side of the country. He did not. This is a move that makes sense for him on a number of levels.
