Charlie was as i understand from news video from that time, a charismatic charming guy. A psychopath to be sure, but a charming one.
A woman from a good family (yes it matters, no it's not racist, yes it's profiling) wanting to rebel or "make a difference" in the world could have been drawn to the guy. Throw in some drugs, some pressure from others in the cult....
It is not unlike, in concept at least, the white dopes who are true believers in black lies matter. They feel guilt. They want to atone. They want to make the world a better place. They want to "make a difference," too.
Throw in some drugs, a charismatic leader who wants them to "off a pig," and you may get similar results.
Again, she should die in prison for what she did. But there was a conspiracy of circumstances that helped get her where she is today.
