During the competitive portion of the campaign, Trump could not win majorities. There are still a lot of voters out there in the party that don't like Trump. There won't be any kind of fast transformation, only a slow considered adoption. A 3rd party is the faster way, but even then, 2020 is too soon. this is why tehre is a 2 party system.
