I recall reading an article mid-year about him hitting the 'freshman wall'. He acknowledged it. After that, it seemed his minutes declined. Stamina, as you say, would make sense. Even mental stamina - maybe - and KA wanted to rest him more so he didn't get overwhelmed and flame out.
