I bought one last Fall because I bought into the hype and found out no one was being truthful about them. I've cooked on it probably 30 times and it just doesn't have the flavor I expect from smoked meat. Surprisingly, it looks good with a decent smoke ring and everything, but there is no smoked flavor. The pellets themselves don't seem to make much difference, and I've tried every method I could find to improve the flavor, including smoke tubes. The pellets are all compressed sawdust anyway. You will never get the flavor of burning real wood from them.
I've decided to go with a ceramic kamado-style smoker. An offset is the dream, but it just too impractical for me. And I already know I can get great flavor using these cookers using lump charcoal and large chunks of real wood. Kamado Joe makes a very nice cooker without the high price of Big Green Egg.
