simply done nothing to rebuild it.
It is amazing to think that Mizzou had a run of almost fifty years where every coach had twenty-win seasons more often than not and least one deep tourney run. Twenty-win seasons are now the outlier for this program.
Quinn was the right guy but we hired him too early. He was not mature enough at the time to handle the job.
Mike Anderson was a very good coach but he always had one foot out the door in anticipation of his dream job opening up for him.
Haith was a horrible hire who did surprisingly well.
Kim was an understandable swing-and-miss. He was Mizzou through and through and had success at the DII level. They hoped he would be Norm 2.0, unfortunately, he turned out to be Norm Peterson not Norm Stewart.
Cuonzo was a historically mediocre coach who had two things working in his favor. Connections to the Porters and Saint Louis ties. The powers that be valued those over actual coaching ability. We got exactly what we paid for with Martin.
I thought Gates was another horrible hire. Many here celebrated it as a great move. In year one it appeared that I was wrong. Year two appeared to validate my opinion. He likely has two more years to turn it around. Historically you do not see coaches return from seasons like this without a change of scenery. I suspect that the real Coach Gates is somewhere between the two seasons we have seen so far which would put us back to being an incredibly mediocre program.
