I believe he said flatly that Judd, Kroenke and Gilbert should be paired together and start, and Troup and Hansen should be coming off the bench. I assume the other two starters would be Frank and Dembele.
I don’t read the Tribune much anymore, is this out of character for this writer to state so flatly that long time starters need to come out of the starting lineup?
I like his suggestions, but not sure why he didn’t include Smith as a starter. Maybe because he thinks we need Dembele to get the ball up the court?
I would start Frank, Smith, Judd, Kroenke and Gilbert at this point, and see what happens. What’s the worst that can happen, we get blown out in the first quarter and spend the rest of the game playing catch up? Well, that's happening much too often right now with Hansen, Troup, Dembele and Kelly starting.
Gilbert and Kroenke are perfectly capable of bringing the ball up court and getting the offense going. No, Frank isn’t the quickest or most athletic person out there, but she holds everything together and is our best scorer. The other 4 are arguably our biggest, longest, quickest, most athletic players on the team. And best defenders (although Dembeles pesky defense is one of her strong points). Why not try them as a unit? It’s not like Hansen, Troup and Dembele won’t get their minutes spelling the starters coming off the bench. They will. But try the 5 players as a starting unit who most closely have the length and quickness and size that SEC teams have.
Seriously, at this point, what do we have to lose? We are now down to just 4 games remaining that are of any consequence whatsoever with regards to our NCAA at large chances. Vandy, TAMU and Florida won’t move the needle much if we win. We desperately need to beat someone of consequence, and that means one of the 4 remaining top 50 NET teams on the schedule.
