The Mizzou folks who sought a move to the Big Ten through the years were motivated largely by a perception that Big Ten membership would help Mizzou improve its standing regionally and nationally as an academic and research institution. They were not particularly concerned with the impact of a move to the Big Ten on Tiger football.
Obviously, the move to the SEC was the right choice. Mizzou now ranks 122nd among national universities in the latest U.S. News rankinngs, the Tiger AD has run a deficit for each of the last five years or so and Mizzou has incurred a couple of hundred million in debt for improvements to Memorial Stadium. It appears that going forward Mizzou may be in the same pod as Oklahoma and Texas. We all know from years in the Big Eight and then the Big Twelve, that the Sooners and Longhorns will be walkovers in football. How could things be better for Tiger athletics?
