I posted a while back I thought the team was similar to last years team. I put down i thought the pluses and minuses of the new and departed players balanced out. I was hoping one of our new centers could be a difference maker.
Right now, I’m thinking this year’s group could be better.
Shug Dickson was a good offensive player, she wasn’t good at sharing the ball, particularly with Aijha or Haley Troup (my opinion). Shug is a good player I like her, but she didn’t seem engaged on defense frequently. Shannon Dufficy never would reach her potential at Mizzou. she plays the same position as Haley Frank, and Haley is better all around (my opinion). Shannon gave good effort and had some good games, but couldn’t guard post players.
A replacement for Shug is Izzy. Izzy is already the better player. She’s not a great defensive player, but she’s a willing and skilled passer. Izzy has that gift of having a shake to her game, at times you think she’s going left, and she passes by on the right. She can score in 3 separate zones of the floor.
A player that could give us a better complimentary player is Sara Rose Smith. She can guard multiple positions, and is a strong person on the boards. She seems to be able to hit 3’s if left open.
Lauren Hansen is going to get more playing time. She works hard on both ends of the court. She’s going to have a few 20 point games (my opinion).
Overall I think we have a better mix of players. They are emphasizing defense, and I agree that’s what cost mizzou 4 or 5 wins last year.
We still need a strong presence in the post.
