imply I sound like Mike Alden. I am truly and fundamentally wounded.
Alden had differing hiring criteria each time in a morphing perspective that was impacted by what had happened before. When he hired Mike Anderson he was looking for a program rebuilder with an impeccable off the court record, and it was completely fine if he was from a mid-major and preferably a candidate of color given who was pressuring Alden to make the hire. When he selected Haith it was imperative to him that the hire came from a major conference program, he was no longer even considering mid-majors. And obviously when he hired Quin it didn't even require any head coaching experience at all.
I'm not saying that D2 coach might not be good and do a good job. Kim Anderson might have been good and do a good job. There might be 2 posters on this board who if given the unlikely opportunity would run with it and demonstrate doing a good job and being a good hire. But in all of those cases those candidates are not taking the necessary career steps to be considered for the role. They need to enter D1 basketball to be a baseline criteria consideration.
