If you are serious about controlling the things you can to stick around, I suggest giving a plant-based diet a try. I'm off all my maintenance meds (blood pressure and acid reflux) that I have been taking for probably a decade. I do run 4-5 times a week for 35-40 minutes, but I was exercising more (swimming for an hour 3-4 times a week) prior to the diet and still couldn't get my blood pressure under control.
I'm about 3 months shy of 2 years on the diet. Without trying, I've dropped 30 lbs and as I mentioned stopped taking daily medication (aside from seasonal allergy meds).
My doctor suggested the diet. He uses it more as a guideline, and gives me flexibility to cheat. Basically, staying on the diet 90% of the time is enough to see the positive effects. So, when I want to have a steak dinner, I have a steak dinner. I just get back on the diet the next day. No guilt.
