During the Odom era it was pretty easy to see what his future held based on who he was beating in recruiting. When he was signing guys over the likes of Tulane and Miami of Ohio, things became pretty clear; if he was going to be successful it would require other-worldly player development, or dominant in-game strategy and execution, or both. Unfortunately none of that materialized and we moved on to what appears to be a more optimistic future.
With Cuonzo Martin, we've seen mixed results with player development (being generous) and I won't bother debating the success of his in-game strategy and execution. So we're left with recruiting. When he came here most hoped that area (at least) would be an area of strength. Has it? Aside from inheriting the Porters and the ready-made team that accompanied them, what programs are looking at Mizzou and thinking "man I wish we hadn't lost [enter player names here] to Cuonzo Martin!"?
If those programs are of the Tulane and Miami of Ohio breed, I think we know what to expect.
