Solutions to the policing "problems"
1) all police forces should be required to wear and have properly operating video and sound. Many do have so now, but they really protect the police and the citizens.
2) police should be shifted into two specialties A) police
B) traffic cops
Police should be used 100% as patrols and beat cops
mostly in high crime areas to prevent or underground crime and violence. High crime areas should be flooded
with police. They should get to know all the peeps in their area.
traffic cops should entirely monitor roads and highways
the idea is to get people to drive safer, not run cities on ticket revenue. They should be fully trained but not carry lethal (in ordinary circumstances) weapons - ie guns. They should always travel in pairs and again wearing body cams. They should also have dash cams
that are linked to radar units. (I'm sure that technology can't be too hard if it doesn't already exist). They shoud be trained to call in the heavy duty cops when they deem necessary. No high speed pursuits etc. With more traffic copping - thelevel of safe driving would dramatically increase and probably ticket
revenue as well.
on the citizen side-1) there should be compliance unsensitivty training in high school. People should be trained on how to behave when interacting with the police. Yes I know that seems stupid and unnecessary but I posit it is less stupid stupid and more necessary than all the sensitivity "training" that is all the rage.
2) concurrent with the unsensitity training (which should be also mandatory for anyone arrested that is not 100% compliant) is a course that cops go through in
reacting to perps and citizens. IE person has a gun and taser and goes through a vid (or in person) of good guys and bad guys. Recognizing the cops POV will do wonders for the noncriminals that that think cops are
out to brutalize angelic people of color (but saying colored is somehow racist- go figure). This should also
be mandatory for people arrested or are not 100% compliant.
Now some of our more stupid and less honest hypocrites will cry aboutMuh gubbiment. But nothing that I have proposed increases government or government authority.
And no this is not about meekly submitting to authority as some of the pickletonians will yammer about.
And here is the final step. Codifying that resisting arrest is a very large contributory factor in any
injuries and or deaths -while NOT releasing police of
their normal standard of responsibility. IE someone like
Floyd's killer would probably face at worst manslaughter charges. While still keeping some uncommon sense like you can't shoot someone for saying "what did I do?"
I'm sure that is not all that can be reimagined in copping but I guarantee every one of those steps
improves the current situation.
