We hear we should have boardrooms and Cabinets and courts, etc. that "look like America" and people ooh and ahh and act as though that is so enlightened.

Can anyone explain how selecting people based on how they look or present leads in any way to a superior objective outcome in any way? I get the subjective, emotional appeal. But if we are attempting to achieve excellence, how does "looking like America" move the needle in an objective way?
