Athleticism is athleticism on both sides of the ball, the distinction you are making is based on skills either offensively or defensively. And I agree that Watson's skills offensively were stunted.
Watson has always been a player I could never figure out, from the first minute he stepped on the court for MU he was not what I envisioned when we recruited him and I don't see how he was going to originally play at Ohio State. I don't think he was probably an SEC level player and has been miscast his tenure at MU, and a transfer down a level is possibly a good thing for both parties. I bring up the athleticism because I have found it surprising that despite what I see as his limitations, he is actually a pretty good defender and that is based largely on his athleticism. He is an SEC caliber athlete in my opinion.
Watson could have evolved into a decent contributor at MU, but similar to Mitch and Parker just never did anything other than shoot 3s when that was not his skill set and never was going to be. That is why I think it encapsulates the Cuonzo era, because the defining characteristic of this era will be poor shot selection and repeated missed 3 pointers by guys who shouldn't be taking them.
