6 series, 3 top 25 match ups, this is where some teams start getting sorted out.
#4 Alabama @ #10 Arky
Arky leads the SEC at 12-0, swept their first four series. That’s tough to do in the SEC. But their schedule had them opening with the worst 4 teams in the conference, Auburn, SC, Miss St (combined record 1-26), and Ole Miss. They have one great pitcher, Haff, who can keep them in any game, and they will start her twice against Bama and don’t be shocked to see her pitch Saturday too. Despite that 12-0 start against an awful schedule, they barely win most of their games, winning 8/12 by just 1 or 2 runs, and 5/12 by just 1 run. On paper, their luck runs out by playing a real top 10 team in Bama. Haff could keep the games close, but I expect Bama to win at least 2/3, maybe sweep them. Contrast Arkys easy opening schedule with Kentucky, who opens with Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. If Arky had that schedule, they would at best be 6-6 at this point, maybe 5-7 or 4-8.
#20 Georgia @ #10 Kentucky
UK is overrated, but they surprised me by taking 2/3 against Bama. That prevented them from being 3-6 or 2-7 at this point instead of 4-5. Georgia has struggled to a 4-5 start, really wish we could have had game 3 against them back. Evenly matched teams, should be 2-1 either way.
#17 LSU @ #19 Missouri
We really need to win at least 2/3 this weekend and get to 8-4 minimum in the conference. With 4 series to go after this weekend, the schedule gets tougher, with road series at Tennessee and Arky, home against Florida and Miss St. We should sweep Miss St, but the other 3 series are going to be really tough, going against some of the best pitchers in the SEC in Haff, UTs Rogers, and Florida excellent staff. I still think getting to 14-10 in the SEC will position us nicely for a top 16 seed, although 15-9 would be even better.
#21 Tennessee @ Miss St
UT should sweep this.
Auburn @ #27 TAMU
I’ll take TAMU at home, 2-1, but that means they need to beat Lowe at least once, which is difficult. Unless Auburns coach makes another boneheaded decision and starts Lowe in only the middle game of the series like he did last weekend against Arky. Speculation was he was conceding games 1 and 3 and trying to steal a win in game 2 against Arkys #2 pitcher. They lost all 3 anyways, but when you have a pitcher as good as Lowe (19 SOs last weekend), you start her 2 games, not 1.
SC @ Ole Miss
Don’t think anyone expected SC to be 0-9 at this point. Ole Miss is actually 6-6, after sweeping Miss St and taking 2 from GA and 1 from LSU. SC has to win a game at some point, bu I think Ole Miss takes 2/3 at home.
