in tbe first half of conference play in order to have a shot at finishing 8-8 in the SEC and being a bubble team to make the NCAA tournament this year. At 0-2, we will almost certainly lose to TAMU, which makes 5-3 our ceiling in the first 8 games. And that’s if we sweep @Ole Miss, @ Auburn, @ Florida, and Vandy and LSU at home. I bet we lose at least one of those 3 road games and come in at 4-4 at the halfway point.
In the last half of the season we will be underdogs in 6 games against top 25 teams, although I’d say we have a shot against Arky at home. Then we are @ Florida and get Georgia at home, which are toss ups at best. An 0-8 finish is a possibility, but I think we find a way to win at least 2 of those games.
It’s not that long ago that we competed pretty well in the SEC, going 8-8, 11-5, 11-5, and 10-6 in the Sophie years, with 10 wins against ranked SEC opponents.
The SEC is stronger and deeper this year, so that’s part of it.
