a police officer wearing a "bulletproof" vest. The vest doesn't stop all bullets, but smart police officers wear them anyway. It significantly improves their odds.

Face masks are very much like that. No one has ever claimed that they "prevent" spread of the virus. But it's perfectly clear, and eminently logical, that they "inhibit" the spread of the virus.

Wear your masks, people.
