Remember being a kid and waiting on a snowstorm to cancel school? You heard rumors about it a few days in advance, and then you spent time checking the weather, sometimes hourly.

Right now, the anticipated snowstorm is this year’s college football season. It is visible on the radar, and it appears to be heading to your town (Columbia); however, as you look closer, and with a more analytical eye, you notice it sliding to the south.

“Crap! This thing could miss us,” you say to yourself.

But as you check and re-check the radar, you tell yourself you notice the storm building strength, and you lie to yourself that the northern edge still may hit. The evidence is there, but your heart tells you to see it differently.

We can continue to watch the radar, but this is slipping to the south. Maybe, and this is a long shot, we will see the equivalent of a half-day of school or a delayed start, but this snowstorm is missing us. Put the shovels away and set the alarms.

No late night phone call with good news is coming our way.

That is how I see it.
