clever response, but not really in touch with the reality of what's going on.

He's a coach. In my experience as a high school and college athlete back in the olden days, high school and college coaches at public and private educational institutions have an obligation to do more than win games. Obviously they need to win, especially now with as much money as is involved.

But they also have a responsibility to help boys become men. This is especially true for young boys who have had challenging lives. CM seems to be doing a great job of that. Hopefully we are able to win a lot of games, and keep him, for many years to come.
