agreements with established sports media outlets (ESPN etc) in favor of their own media platform (ala Longhorn Network). It has failed, miserably, and continues to be an anchor around the neck of that conference. Not sure how the institutions get out of this dilemma until they figure out how to can the existing media platform and join the rest of the crowd.
