For him, it was circumstantial at each stop.
At Mo State, he moved from mid-major to SEC. Not surprising there.
At UT, he was run out of town (remember the petition with 10k signatures to let him go and hire back Pearl) and he left for the best opening he could swing at the time.
Leaving Cal for MU is the one that isn't as obvious. Not sure if it came down to wanting to be nearer to home, make more money, didn't like the West coast, etc. But he had tournament teams there a couple of years, and might have won a couple of NCAA games if not for some injuries to star players his last year there.
My point is that I don't think he's a fraud. He's settling in, I hope, and we'll see how good of a coach he can be. For his benefit (as well as for ours), I hope it works at Mizzou.
