Nikko was his efficient sidekick inside, making all five of his field goals in the paint and all four of his free throws. After the game Martin revealed that Nikko almost didn’t play Saturday at Arkansas because of a back injury and might have been a pregame scratch Wednesday. After not getting a single rebound at Arkansas, Nikko grabbed five Wednesday, part of MU’s 42-27 advantage on the boards.
“He’s a fighter,” Martin said. “We've kept him out of practices. It was one of those deals if he didn't look good in walk-through we probably wouldn't have played him. … But he's not going to say anything about it, which is impressive.”
“He told you that, huh?” Nikko said when asked about his back. “It’s been bothering me the last couple games. … I felt like after that performance (at Arkansas) I had to prove again what I’m capable of. I had a matchup tonight I could definitely do that. I had to go to work.”
Well done, Reed.
