financial software couldn't handle the date rollover.

Those movies and claims planes would drop out of the sky was stupid. Everyone knew it was coming for years and planned accordingly. A lot of businesses just used it to start moving to newer platforms than old ass massively expensive systems that only 60+ year olds knew how to work on.
