is that LA doesn’t totally re-tool the infield to take Rollin permanently away from the SS position. At least not yet. I think she tries some half way effort at first, starts her sometimes, DHs her sometimes, and sees if another configuration works.
She’s playing with house money this year, no decision she makes impacts our positioning for a top 16 seed and home regional. This is a transition year. Building the team and getting players to improve, particularly the pitching staff, so she enters the 2021 season in as strong a position as possible.
If you really want to re-tool the infield and resolve some problems, the radical approach is to bench Bailey, who may not ever hit more than a buck 70 here, move Rollin to DH, and bring in 2 infielders to pair with Wert somehow at 3B, SS, and 2B. There are some options there.
It’s all about getting your best offensive and defensive players on the field at the right positions. And minimizing glaring weaknesses in any area. Right now Rollins fielding and Baileys hitting are glaring weaknesses in the infield positions. Is LA going to address that, or not?
It would be a much easier decision had Chaumont not been injured and redshirted. She is a versatile player who could be fit into a number of roles to build the strongest team.
