You have to understand. Back when I was a kid, my mom thought it was a disgrace to wear jeans with holes in the knees. Yes, the kind of stuff teenage girls pay top dollar for off the shelves these days. When she saw I had holes in the knees, she would insist on putting patches on the knees, which was incredibly embarrassing. So the best solution was to get to them with a pair of scissors before she could patch them under the excuse that they would make good shorts or even swimming trunks for going swimming in the pond.
