the whistleblower basically called 911 when he saw the "smoke" of something fishy going on. The investigation leading to this trial is about what was going on, the fishy business - or what Bolton called "this drug deal". We are way past the guy who called it in.
Had nothing ever ever been found, then yeah you can call this guy in and say WTF you talking about. But seeing all the evidence now in play of all the fishy business and the drug deal, hardly a need for the guy who called it in.
That was a very simple analogy.
