1. Graduate the best player ever here, plus a strong senior class.
2. Key transfers, which almost never happened before in Pingetons 10 years.
3. Key injury to a player in a critical need position, Levy at point guard. Yes, I know, she ended up transferring. But I doubt she would have played this year anyways due to the seriousness of her injury.
4. Weak recruiting years after Sophie’s class catching up to us, which when combined with transfers left us with little quality and depth in the senior, junior, and sophomore classes.
5. Near misses on some critical recruiting targets, Mack in particular. No, she wouldn’t have made this a top 25 team, and maybe not even an NCAA team (that is arguable), but this team, with all its flaws, would look way different with her as an option and way more competitive.
6. Finally, 2 prized freshmen not quite ready for prime time, as we all had hoped they would be. Both will be great players here, but both have flaws we didn’t realize, and have more development.
All those factors combined into a perfect storm. Some of them you can lay directly at Pingetons feet, but not all were under her control.
Meaning anyone who thinks even a train wreck season of these proportions will lead to Coach Pingetons leaving, or even being remotely on a hot seat heading into next year, are going to be sorely disappointed.
