The janitor at my office often reaches in and takes the trash out by hand if there is not much in there so he does not have to replace the bag every time. Maybe that is what happened here, and they were afraid to throw away the check once they found it.

I am guessing that most janitors are not that familiar with advanced electronic banking and thought you must have thrown the check away by accident.

And besides, it is probably good practice to destroy the check, not simply throw it in the trash without tearing it up or shredding it.

This is all your fault.
