Loveland's Lauren Krings has been named the state's softball player of the year by Gatorade.
The junior right-handed pitcher helped her team go 23-5 and reach the Class 5A semifinals last season. She was 22-5 with a 0.65 ERA, with 392 strikeouts in 192 innings. She also hit .500 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI.
She is the third Loveland athlete to win the Gatorade award. She is the second softball player from Loveland to win, following Ashtin Williamson in 2004-05.
After the season, Krings was named the 5A player of the year as part of the all-state teams.
"Laurin Krings throws pure heat, but with little to no effort," said Thompson Valley coach Bryon Rutherford. "She's also a beast with the bat. I've been coaching at the high school level and travel softball for over 25 years and I've seen some great players in Colorado ... she's as good or better than all of them."
