Xavier is over-rated. They have one good player, #13. The others are role players without athleticism or a shooter’s touch. They should not be ranked and I would be surprised if they made it into the Sweet Sixteen this season.

Dru Smith had an ugly first 10 minutes of the game, a good next 25 minutes and a disappearing act the remainder of regulation.

Mark Smith never really took a good 3 pointer. He doesn’t have the athleticism to drive to the basket, and was often contested as he got to the basket. Players like Jordan Barnett could do both, shoot from outside and finish at the basket.

Brown played well but couldn’t hit jumpers. Hopefully that component will come with time.

Pinson showed flashes of promise but also more error prone than a second year player should have.

Nikko played within himself, showed hustle and changed some shots in the paint.

Jackson will be good but will take time to find his spot on the floor.

Watson & Pickett haven’t yet found how to excel in this year’s version of offense. We know from last year what they are capable of, but haven’t had them get those opportunities this year. We need both to be more productive.

No comment on Tilmon.

Mitchell Smith needs to play like he did against N. Kentucky, not like the other 2 games.

This team can be good offensively but will not win games with only 1 player scoring in double figures.

Potential is there, and I hope it doesn’t remain as mere potential.
