by a beat reporter who has never actually seen the kid, and even if he did he's in no position to make any kind of judgement on that kid's ability or likelihood to perform at the next level.
the ranking "formula" is simple:
- is this kid being recruited by a school i've heard of? = 2*
- is this kid being recruited by a team that's been good in the last few years? = 3*
- is this kid being recruited by a number of schools that have been good in the last few years? = 4*
- is this kid being recruited by bama, clemson, ohio state, texas, notre dame, oklahoma, etc? = 5*
these ratings aren't leading indicators of talent. they're lagging indicators of how good the teams recruiting them have performed recently. anyone who believes differently is just fooling themselves.
