the most exciting Missouri game I ever witnessed to that point in my young life. To put the game into historical perspective, coming into Columbia, K-State was ranked 12th having lost only to Penn State 14-17. Penn State would go on to play Missouri in the Orange Bowl that year and ended up 11-0, #2 in the final polls. The week before that game in Columbia (MU's Homecoming, BTW), K-State, led by QB Lynn Dickey, annihilated OU 59-21, sending shock waves through college football. Remember, in those days, K-State had suffered through decades of losing seasons. Wildcat fans couldn't believe they were in the Top 15 and had just KILLED the vaunted Sooners. After losing to Missouri 41-38, KSU was so demoralized that they lost every one of their remaining games. You can see highlights of that game beginning at the 1:25 mark of this video:
