So it's a pretty safe bet for Rivals to base rankings on who is recruiting a player. If Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Ohio State are all chasing a kid, you can probably safely assume he's pretty damn good. No scouting necessary, but it LOOKS like they know what they're doing when you can put together graphs that show a rough correlation (but not causation) between class rank and wins.
But there are thousands of recruits signed every year. Rivals doesn't have actual information on most of them. It's foolish to assume they do.
