First, Flordia does have some talent. I.e. they got two QB's who were higher rated than Drew Lock coming out of high school.
Secondly, Florida was a mess in 2017 under Jim McElwain and Dan Mullen had to right the ship last year.
Thirdly, Mullen is a good coach. He was 69-46 with seven bowl appearances in nine years at Mississippi State. That suggests Mullen can develop talent and coach a little bit.
You put some talent, some coaching and some time to right the ship and you've got a good chance of success. That's what the writers see.
