just because of a slight position change.
I’ve said before, there are tons of reasons why softball players transfer, and no one situation is exactly like the other.
All I know is this one was not over playing time clearly. But I really don’t think it’s a big loss. She and Bailey simply havnt produced anywhere close to what they were projected to do as top 40 (?) recruits coming out of high school. Both were going to be vulnerable next year to getting beaten out by players who could actually hit D1 pitching on a consistent basis. I hope Bailey stays, she is great defensively and while I think LA stuck with her too long in the starting line up, she deserves a chance to show improved hitting in her sophomore season. Martin has 2 full years and hit an anemic .231. Her leaving is not a huge loss.
And yes, personal issues are often as much a part of transfer decisions as playing/coaching issues. Boyfriends/girlfriends included. One of the 3 great Oregon pitchers who left that team this year, Maggie Bailent, is transferring to San Diego St, not known as any powerhouse, and she will be a big fish in a small pond there; I heard there was a bf involved in that decision too.
