Jaws are dropping all around the SEC now after taking 5/6 games from Georgia and Kentucky. I’m cautiously optimistic about the rest of the season. The team is really young, and the pitching staff is just not as talented and deep as it needs to be to be a top 16 team. There are going to be good days and bad days, like the awful loss to Bradley at home sandwiched in between these last two incredible SEC series. We won at Kentucky, at least the first two games, because our hitters went nuts. That’s not always going to happen in the SEC.
But if we can steal a game from Tennessee this weekend, and get to the halfway point 6-6, that would be amazing. UT will be the best team we play all year in the conference. Our opening 4 series are just brutal. The closing 4 series are not nearly as challenging, with TAMU and Miss St being probably the worst 2 teams in the conference, and Ole Miss and SC good but not great. If we keep on playing like this we have a decent shot to get 12-14 SEC wins. We won only 7 SEC games in 2017 and 6 in 2018.
Agree about Moore. She has been a pleasant surprise. She looked helpless at the plate last year, and started very slowly this year too, going 2-17 in the first 7 games. Since then she has been on fire, hitting safely in 15/21 games, 22-60, .367 clip, to raise her season average to .308. Whoever on Coach LAs staff is coaching the hitting is doing a great job with Hattie.
The future of this team is really bright, with all the contributions we are getting from the freshmen and sophomores. Just need to upgrade the pitching, and you will see us back in the top 15 in the country.
