We were 33 last Monday, went up as high as 23 right after the Miss St win, now down 5 slots since then, but 28 is still great shape for an NCAA bid. We could have finished in the high teens by winning out but that didn’t happen.

Tennessee fell as low as the low 60’s, but is now up to 43 after beating us yesterday. The SEC contenders for the tournament line up this way this morning:

7 Miss St
15 SC
21 TAMU
22 Kentucky
28 Mizzou
43 Tennessee
53 Auburn
61 LSU

Arky (80) and Georgia (113) are just too far back to even be bubble teams.

I see Tennessee getting on a roll here, now that their backs are to the wall, and finishing strong, pushing their RPI rank up into the 30s somewhere. The higher it goes, the better for our resume. So as distastful as it seems for some fans, I’m rooting for them to win out. They have 2 very high profile games coming up to get signature top 25 wins, at TAMU (21) and SC (15) at home. Then they finish with Vandy and Ole Miss, two cupcakes.

So now our best wins are against:

7 Miss St
21 TAMU
43 Tennessee
53 Auburn
56 West Virginia

We have no games left against top 25, or even top 50 RPI teams. The only chance we have for another top 25 win will be in the SEC tourney. Our resume looks a lot better than it did just 2 weeks ago, prior to the TAMU and Miss St wins, and Tennessee’s expected resurgence.
