If you are a program/coach that builds for the big year every few years, your big year should be when you have 3-4 seniors and 3-ish juniors and sophs.
Mike's last year at MU is a classic example of what not keeping an eye on class balance will do to your program.
It is not possible for class balance to be overrated because almost nobody understands it. If coaches aren't doing it, they aren't overrating it. While it should not be your primary focus, it is currently underrated by lots of folks.
