Because he would be a QB taken in the first round, he would surely make a team out of pre-season and be on a roster, earning him about $500K per season.
In baseball, he'd be making pennies in salary riding buses and staying at motels while he crawls through the lower levels for a couple of years.
Also... if the above situation were to occur, even if his NFL career never took off, he could still go back to baseball after earning millions in the NFL.
This is smart on his part.
Baseball is the safer sport. And he may have more earning potential by the time he retires.
But in the NFL, you can get paid way more, early in your career by getting taken in the first round - even if you never start a game.
