baseball - there's no guarantee that he'll be able to hit major league pitching and make it to Oakland.

If he's a 1st rounder in the NFL draft, his signing bonus (which is guaranteed) will likely dwarf the baseball guarantee.

He probably prefers to play football, or he would have spent the fall working at his craft instead of playing football and (cough cough) going to class.
