ku gets a coach with a big name who will attract attention to the program and probably get some players to make them a bit more competitive.
Miles gets a cushy no lose situation and a bunch of money to wind down his career. It's going to be nearly impossible to do as bad as everyone has been post Mangino, so just winning 4-5 games a year and being more competitive will make him a hero in Lawrence. Go 6-6 and make a bowl game at some point? Hell, they may build a statue.
