I took a 7 day Alaskan intercoastal cruise from Seattle - left the Sunday before Labor Day Weekend - returned on Sunday morning, Sept. 2. So yes, I had to get my updates from the UT-Martin game from the high seas.
Super time on the cruise.
Stopped in Juneau and went out on a smaller boat for some whale watching.
Stopped in Skagway - took a helicopter to the top of a glacier - drank the pure icy cold water coming out of the glacier - it was cold but sweet! And the helicopter flight through the mountains to get to the glacier was way cool.
Stopped in Ketchikan - Took a sea plane (another first) through the Misty Fjords - another neat trip - never been on a sea plane.
The only bummer about the Norwegian Pearl - the IPA beer selection on the ship left much to be desired. All they had was Goose Island. However, all of the ports of call had great microbreweries with great IPA's.
Stopped off at Victoria in Canada - caught some college football (finally) Saturday night at an Irish Pub - they had the Notre Dame / Michigan game on.
But the food was great.
Played some basketball on board.
Hit golf balls.
The entertainment was good.
Food was too good.
And the weather was great - short sleeves and shorts for half the trip.
If anyone is considering a cruise to Alaska, would definitely recommend it.
And it marked my 50th state that I've been to over my short life. :-)
But my wife enjoyed it so much she's thinking we should look at other cruises.
I'll have to follow up with you to see if there are more deals like the one you described on this board.
You're right - I pride myself on getting great seats at cheap prices at away games - but what you paid for your cruise blew away what I paid.
