He had three years of college paid for.
The average student has tens of thousands of dollars in debt to do the same thing.
He spent his first 2.5 years of college as a privileged student-athlete at a major university (after growing up with a millionaire NBA brother, so probably quite a bit of privilege before then, too). If he's trying to generate sympathy, this isn't likely to do it for him.
