I have no problem with him defending a former coach he worked with. I doubt he would be doing so if he believed this guy played apart in the players death.
Now days everyone looks to blame someone or something for any type of tragic situation. And more often than not the person who this happened to is never seen as the possible cause. I mean I could name several things that could of lead to his demise on the field....Weight issues, drugs, not hydrating...drinking crappy Energy drinks,roids or supplements,preexisting condition....A lot of players don't realize it's their body and they should treat it like a temple.
