about drops and not incompletions. Drops are judged like an error in baseball. Every single incompletion is judged based on the reasonable expectation that the ball be caught. Every play that is ruled a drop is ruled that way because the ball was judged to be a fairly easy catch. A ball that could have been caught with a spectacular play is NOT ruled a drop.
Therefore, when looking at these stats regarding drops, you can rightly accept that they are talking about plays where the receiver screwed up and not the QB.
The QB does screw up. It happens. That is a completely separate stat and debate form what is presented here.
