Not that GDP is in question here but you assume the sec is somehow the favored conference in those states. Maybe Tennessee. Georgia has a strong ACC component, Florida has a bigger ACC component than sec, and Texas is overwhelmingly a big 12 state. I live in texas. The only people in the state that pay attention to A&M are their alums. The rest of the sec distinctively lacks prestige - You can look up the rankings of all the negative socio-economic indicators in the US on a state by state basis you will find that of the worst 10, the majority will indeed be sec states. Tennessee not looking so good now is it. It pains me that Missouri is that low too (and we are not even a southern state).
Yea, the conference does offer some stability and cash and it's great at football, but there is no prestige gained in being part of it.
